Whether you like it or not, online piracy is illegal, particularly uploading copyrighted videos for others to download. Various courts throughout the nation have made this clear.
However, in recent years there hasn’t been much done about it from the lobbyist due to the fact that just suing everyone proved to be bad for their image.
Now, the powers that be, or want to be are targeting a more murky issue: Linking illegal content.
With yesterday’s jailing of Anton Vickerman, who was convicted and sentenced, in the UK, to four years in prison for linking to copyrighted material on his website, surfthechannel.com, there perhaps is an unwanted issue on the horizon for bloggers (such as myself), or users who link to their favorite YouTube videos and articles on social networking sites.
Who really knows where Vickerman’s conviction will lead to in the future, but we should consider ourselves on notice that the recording or entertainment industry does indeed have the law on its side.
